Exhibition Statement

Kalashnikovv gallery introduces a solo exhibition by Nathan Vuuren entitled “Incurions” Vuuren examines the complicated nature of the South African landscape, both physical and social. As an artist, he is fascinated with the raw emotions that come with the experiences of violence, excess, politics, and personal struggles, all of which are deeply embedded in this Context. Through his paintings, he aims to offer a glimpse into his personal experiences and observations, while also grappling with the larger societal issues that impact us all. Whether examining the beliefs that shape South African culture or capturing the entropy that seems to pervade every corner of the urban landscape, he is always searching for ways to convey the raw emotive power of these experiences to his viewers.

He employs a range of techniques and approaches in his paintings, drawing on a rich visual vocabulary that includes everything from bold brushstrokes and vivid colors to subtle and intricate rendering. Each piece is a unique expression of his own vision and perspective, and he strives to create works that are both deeply personal and broadly relevant.

Ultimately, his hope is that his paintings will serve as a catalyst for meaningful conversations about the state of South African society today, as well as an expression of the deep beauty and complexity of this incredible country. He invites you to immerse yourself in the emotions and experiences that inspired these works and to join him in exploring the rich and complicated nature of the South African landscape.
